About the Art

Though there are clearly some constant themes throughout my work, I tend to think of each painting I make as a unique and individual piece. But, if I had to pin it down, I'd say the overall spirit conveyed frequently contains considerable tension, psychological unease... between thought and action, between memory and perception, between behavior and drive. Often times this theme stands in contrast to the gestural lines and subtle edges that characterize my technique. It's an impressionist style that traps my figures in another time or state of being. Artist Biography

A fifth-generation Californian, Greig was raised with the stories of the Old West and the beautiful, rugged California wilderness: rocky coastline, alpine lakes and blooming deserts. The flavor of these stories runs as an undercurrent throughout her work today. The figures and the settings may be modern, but the overall tenor of her work is quiet, nostalgic and dreamlike.

Elizabeth was born in Camarillo, just north of Los Angeles. She says she was born to be an artist, drawing constantly from the time she was old enough to hold a pencil. Her artistic abilities always got a lot of attention from peers but she had little formal training as an artist until she took a drawing class for fun during her sophomore year of college. With the encouragement of her drawing teacher, she switched majors and completed a BA degree in art in 1996.

For the first two years after college, Greig worked as an art teacher at Cornerstone school in Camarillo. Since then, she has worked as a graphic designer, gradually shifting from print advertising to freelance illustration and web design. She has lived in Arizona, Hawaii and Georgia, returning home to California in 2004 to raise a family.

Commissioning a Pet Portrait

compares photo to painting1. Select a Few Photos

The first step in ordering your pet portrait is to look through your photos and select two or three that best show the personality of your pet. When I paint the portrait I will be drawing on the qualities I see in the photos for inspiration.

Once you have a few photos selected, go ahead and email them to photos@vividpetportraits.com. I'll take a look at the lighting and composition and select one to base the painting on.

2. Choose a Size

The next step is to select the size of the painting. Pricing is set by the size of the painting and the number of subjects in the painting.

Size One Pet Two Pets Three Pets
6" x 8" $85 N/A N/A
8" x 10"
$150 N/A N/A
11" x 14" $250 $300 N/A
16" x 20" $450 $525 $600

22" x 28" $700 $800 $875
24" x 36" $950 $1075 $1200

3. Email Me Any Special Requests or Instructions

The pricing above includes a single subject against a plain or sketchy background, but you might want to do something more detailed or creative with the background. For example, you might have a picture of your dog at the park but would like him to be at the beach in the painting. I can do almost anything you want, just ask and I'll send you a quote.

4. Make a 50% Deposit

At this point I will send you a PayPal request for a 50% non-refundable deposit. You don't need a PayPal account, just a credit card. Once I receive your photo and deposit, I can start working on your painting!

When Your Painting is Done

I typically need two weeks to complete a small painting (11" x 14" or smaller) and four to six weeks to complete a larger painting. If you are giving the painting as gift and need it by a certain date, let me know and I will do my best to accommodate you.

When the painting is done, I will email you a photo of the painting and send you a PayPal request for the final 50% payment. Once I receive your payment, I will ship the painting to you. Standard priority mail shipping to any location in the US is included in the price of the painting. There is an additional charge for international or express shipping. If you live in the LA area, you are also welcome to pick up your painting in person.
